How on earth do I fit the last few hours on a little blog post... Welll. I am in Guatemala. And it is absolutely beautiful. Take this view from my bed for example:
Multiply that by 10 for half of the actual beauty.
My travel buddy Bethy and I met some wonderful friends already. Traveling has a way of throwing people into situations where you have to be friends. We met in the airport, realized that we were going to the same city and decided to tag along with them. So, we ended up in this hostel for about $8 a night:
Seriously. $8 a night. And that includes breakfast. Definitely not millionaires paradise, but absolutely perfect for us.
After setting into our hostel Beth and I walked the streets, totally in awe of the mountains, beautiful buildings, and even more beautiful people. Countless times we were stopped and talked to. People try to sell things, try to convince us to go on their tours, go to their schools to learn Spanish, or...try to sell us drugs. We have already gotten pretty good at ignoring the boys that like American girls...
The narrow sidewalks on the streets were crowded with people of every age. There were women wearing tradition dress, and a few walking around balancing huge things on their heads. Really. Sometimes with no hands. Don't ask how they manage that!
The Central American culture has such a different feel. They're so carefree, so happy...there is always happy, raggae/ska/dancing music playing everywhere, and already we've been invited to a live salsa dance night. Welcome back to Central America, Jenna!
Dear everyone at home: I might not come back. This culture has captured my heart and locked it in a cage. Funny thing is, I'm more than okay with that. :)
