I think I should resolve not to fall in love with people so fast. My heart feels like it got ripped out into a million pieces. Like I am leaving an important part of me behind.
The part that really gets me is that everyone we felt close to that we said special goodbyes to - those three and Juan last night - they all seemed extremely attached and sad we were leaving. Especially Pedro. We bought smoothies from him every day and for some reason, sometimes, people just click. Chapi, the sweetheart, gave Bethy an earring and me a ring, and gave Bethy one more dance in the street. Oh my gato. Thank God for Facebook.
We arrived in Panajachel and after riding in a tuk-tuk to the town centro, we walked around looking for a place to stay.
Panajachel is definitely a big city. I'm so glad we decided to go to San Pedro where it was so "tranquilo" and beautiful. I can't even imagine having stayed here and not met the amazing people we did.
Oh life.
After walking around a little bit a boy behind a chicken cart (fried chicken, not real chickens) asked where we were going. We said all the hotels were too expensive so he left his cart and showed us to the hotel where his family and friends work. After breaking the key ("Miguel" assured us it was fine) we decided to share one room for q70. One medium sized bed in a tiny room, but at least they have hot showers!
We walked through the beautiful shops, bought waayy too many awesome things for a dollar or two, then got some delicious chicken and potatoes from Miguel before heading down to watch our last sunset at Lake Atitlan.
Tomorrow, catching a 6:00
am shuttle to Montericco and trying not to think about how much I miss those beautiful people across the lake.
